Kindergarten Round Up

We've made it through 2 weeks of kindergarten and things have gone pretty well. Elisabeth absolutely loves her school and her teacher. It definitely helps me as a parent that her teacher is super organized. I love their use of technology in keeping in contact with parents.

Each week, Elisabeth has classes in Math, Science, Art, Computer, Music, Spanish and PE. She runs to me full of excitement when I pick her up from school. She did have some trouble making friends at first but that's to be expected when she had the same friends all throughout preschool. She thought she could wait for her new classmates to approach her. It gave us an opportunity to teach her about reaching out to others.

We also learned about the discipline system in the classroom. Each child's name is written on a clothespin and if disciplined by the teacher, they have to "drop their clip" down a rung of descending rungs. It looks like a big wire hanger with multiple rungs. It starts with a few minutes of time out and the last rung is going to the principle's office. Apparently there are a few boys in her class that frequently have to drop their clips. Elisabeth happily reports each day that she has not had to drop her clip, just in case you were worrying. :-)

I like that she wears a uniform to school. It means less washing and coordinating and add to that she just looks darn cute. The work seems to be challenging enough for her and she even remarked how she loves doing homework. Can I get that in writing??? We debated the merits of private school versus public school for a long time before deciding to send her to private school. Over all, we are very pleased and know for sure we made the right choice in sending her to private school. We are looking forward to the weeks to come and will be sure to post more updates as we go.
