We also went to the Lexington Cemetery to plant flags at the graves of soldiers. This is also an annual tradition for us. It is so moving to me to slowly walk amongst the graves and read each name. I have this urgent need to remind these souls that they are remembered. I remember them. I call their name. It's also important to Matthew and I that our kids learn at an early age to have a profound appreciation for those who give up so much for our freedoms. We don't want them to take the life that they lead and where they live for granted.
Elisabeth also had a friend spend the night with us. This friend commented on Elisabeth's training wheels on her bike and how small her bike is. It only took 2.2 seconds for Elisabeth to learn to ride her bike without training wheels after that. We have spent the last 2 years trying to get her to ride without training wheels and her friend managed to do it in just a few moments. Now that she is gaining control of her bike, we are going to purchase a brand new, bigger bike for her ride.
So many things to be proud of this weekend!
Our beautiful strawberries:
Remembering our heroes:
Those that we do not know but still need to remember:
This one was at the very end. Elisabeth felt compelled to walk all the way out there to put a flag on this one. She did not want this one to be left out.
This one spoke to me. So young. Too young.
Back at home. No training wheels!
I am reminded this weeked that we have a lot to be proud of. We have a lot to be thankful for. We make it a point to remember those who have walked the difficult road before us. I relish the life I have due to their sacrifices. The best way we can honor those brave souls is to never take for granted this wonderful gift of freedom that we have been given. I am grateful to them for living here in this place with people I love. I relish it all.
Particulary moments like these that make my heart smile.
I am proud.
