Today, I took a stand. I opened up Lexington's local newspaper, the Herald-Leader, to find an article about a Kentucky soldier who was part of the initial invasion into Iraq. He came upon Uday Hussein's stash of cash and in a flash, he and his buddy decided to take the money. He was later court martialled and now lives in Florida.
Both Matthew and were extremely offended. Memorial Day is for honoring those who have served in our Military who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We were both insulted that the paper chose to take this slant and highlighted one negative in a world of good deeds by our Armed Forces. So I cancelled our paper. We will NEVER subscribe the Herald Leader again. I have finally ended this love/hate (mostly hate) relationship I have with the Herald Leader.
I choose to honor the dead who have given their lives in the name of my freedom.
I choose to highlight their families.
I choose to consciously think of those individuals who are stronger than I, who volunteer to do the work that I cannot do.
I started looking around the internet for postings about Memorial Day. I found this video that is truly remarkable. It's a little long but please watch it.

I CHOOSE HONOR.
I CHOOSE TO REMEMBER.
I hope you do, too.
