I recently went out to purchase Wii Fit for Matthew for his birthday. We have both been trying to work out more lately but sometimes he finds excuses to not go to the gym. So I thought having a Wii Fit would help on those days to at least give him some exercise at home.
I called what seemed like everywhere because the darn things are so popular that you can only buy them between the hours of midnight and 1am. I finally found one of the elusive Wii Fit's at Toys R Us. I travelled to the store, excited to get this present.
That's when I found out that Toys R Us would not sell me the Wii Fit unless I bought the "bundle" which included twelve AA batteries and a warranty. Let me tell you, I was less than thrilled at this news. I went ahead and purchased the bundle because I really wanted this gift for Matthew. But I did make sure to tell the clerk and the store manager that I thought this was another way for a big corporation to rip off it's customers to make money during a down economy.
So, for the bargain price of $12.99 (the cost of the warranty), Toys R Us has lost my business forever. And with two small kids who have lots of friends with birthdays, we have been known to drop more than a few bucks in that store. No more, I say.
Toys R Us: You are dead to me.
Strong words, maybe a bit dramatic but you know what? I mean it. I know customer service has been dead for a long time but now we are forced to buy products we don't want to get something we do?
Target, Wal Mart, Kmart and every other toy establishment will get my business from now on.
