Spring Break 2008 - Day 2

Today we visited the Louisville Slugger Museum. For a nominal fee ($9 for adults and kids under 5 are Free), we took a factory tour and learned how baseball bats are made. Each person on the tour receives a free smaller version of the Louisville Slugger. I thought it was such a neat place and the kids stayed entertained, which is saying something for a 6 year old and a 2 year old. I love baseball and have been following my hometown team, the Baltimore Orioles, for years. So it was a real treat for me to go to the Slugger Museum. One of my personal favorites of the museum is a baseball bat that was made for Babe Ruth. This particular bat is one of three known bats that the Babe used where notches were carved around the logo for each home run he hit. There were 21 notches on this bat before it broke. I relished being in this place that held bats from some of baseball's greats, players that hailed from a time before steroids, extreme fame and outrageous ticket sales. If time travel existed, I think I would choose to watch an old game of Babe Ruth's or Ty Cobb's. Here's a link to some interesting history about how Louisville Sluggers came to exist. Louisville Slugger History. A great time was had by all and we will definitely go back again. Be sure to visit this gem if you're in the Louisville area. Don't forget to take your picture by the giant bat out front!
